TOP STORY
📸 Apple releases new “Clean Up” tool

This week, Apple’s new iOS 18 developer beta update came with a photo-editing tool called “Clean Up,” which uses AI to remove unwanted objects from pictures.

  • To use Clean Up, users need to download iOS 18.1 beta 3 and then access the feature through the Photos app.

  • The tool automatically detects removable objects or allows users to draw over them.

  • However, it has mixed results and may need more refinement before it’s fully released.

Apple’s Clean Up tool is still in beta and may improve. It operates entirely on-device, which is better for privacy but could limit its capabilities compared to Google’s AI, which benefits from server-based processing.

Once iOS 18 is released to the public, this will be available to all iPhone users (on compatible devices).

Here’s how the tool looks like in action👇️

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
🖼️ “Playground” is Canva + AI

Playground is a new AI image generator designed for users who prefer a more guided, template-based approach to creating graphics.

  • Unlike other AI tools like Midjourney, which rely heavily on text prompts, Playground offers templates for various designs—like logos, posters, and memes—where users can customize elements using AI.

  • You can also start by uploading an image and tweaking it using “Apply Style” and text prompts to make adjustments.

  • Playground aims to make design more accessible, especially for non-designers and small businesses.

The browser and iOS app let users pick a template, modify it with AI tools, and create unique designs.

However, while it offers a lot of flexibility and experimentation, some templates require a subscription, and the tool’s AI can produce mixed results, especially with text elements.

Here are examples of what you can do with it 👇️

AUDIO
🎧️ ElevenLabs releases “SFX Explore”

In May, ElevenLabs launched their Text-to-Sound Effects tool, which allowed users to generate sound effects from text prompts (try it here).

This week, they’ve now expanded their AI-generated sound effects platform with new features to make creating and sharing audio easier for everyone and added a library of AI sounds to enhance the creative experience.

What else is new?

  • SFX Explore Page: Browse, search, edit, and share AI sound effects across 38 categories.

  • Community Favorites: Check out the most popular sound effects each week.

  • Custom Search Bar: Quickly find specific sounds for your projects.

  • Edit Sounds: Customize existing sound effects using text prompts.

  • History Page: Easily revisit and share your previous sound creations.

  • Community Contributions: Share your own custom sounds with others.

These updates, designed for everyone from film producers to hobbyists, aim to make it easier to create high-quality audio content.

Plus, sound effects are 100% free to create and download!
