TOP STORY
šŸ™ƒ Canva raises prices by 300%

Canva is increasing the price of its Teams subscription, citing the addition of new AI tools as the reason.

  • For U.S. users, the price for a five-person plan jumps from $120 to $500 annually, with a 40% discount for the first year.

  • Australian users will see their flat fee of $39.99 AUD per month change to $13.50 AUD per user, with a minimum of three users required.

  • The price hike applies only to Canva Teams, not to the Pro or Enterprise tiers.*

Many users are unhappy about the change, especially since Canva communicated it via email rather than publicly.

Big picture: Canvaā€™s move to increase prices by up to 300% has caused backlash among its users. Some customers feel that the platformā€™s value as an affordable alternative to Adobe is being lost.

The change comes as Canva prepares for an IPO and expands its offerings with new acquisitions and AI tools.

AUDIO
šŸŽµ Premiere Pro lets you search for free stock audio

Premiere Pro now allows you to search for sound effects directly in the ā€œEssential Sound panel,ā€ including thousands of free files from Adobe Stock.

  • You can filter these by ā€œfreeā€ or ā€œpremiumā€ categories and even license tracks while you edit, making it easier to find the right audio for your project.

  • The update also introduces Timeline Sync, which lets you play a music track or sound effect in the Essential Sound panel and hear it in sync with your video on the timeline (this helps you preview how the audio fits with your edit in real time).

Additionally, Premiere Pro now supports Linear Timecode (LTC) for better syncing of video and audio files and has added compatibility with Canon EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1 cameras.

šŸ“± YouTube releases thumbnail features for YouTube Shorts

YouTube has expanded its thumbnail editing options for Shorts, allowing creators to customize their thumbnails with text, filters, and emojis after upload.

While the option to upload fully custom thumbnails isnā€™t available yet, these new tools provide more ways to enhance the visual appeal of Shorts.

With the new update, creators can choose a frame for their Shorts thumbnail and apply text, filters, and emojis to make it stand out.

  • This feature is available on both Android and iOS platforms.

  • When selecting a thumbnail for a short-form video, new floating options for adding text and filters will appear on the top right corner of the screen.

Despite the new customization options, YouTube has stated that custom thumbnails are less critical for Shorts because most users discover them within the Shorts feed, where full-screen videos are displayed instead of smaller thumbnails.

Consequently, Shorts thumbnails will only appear on search, hashtag, audio pivot pages, and the creatorā€™s channel.
