Today, Meta announced a new video editing app called "Edits,” designed to compete with TikTok’s popular editing tool, CapCut, which has gone offline in the U.S. due to a federal ban.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed the app, emphasizing its robust creative tools, like a higher-quality camera, green screen features, and a dashboard offering detailed insights for creators.

Edits is available for pre-order on iOS and launches on March 13, 2025.

“Edits” app features

In addition to Instagram launching this competitor, two other notable video editing tools have responded to the CapCut ban:

  • Riverside.fm, a popular video and podcasting recording tool is offering 25% off your first three months with code “cpct2riversidefm.”*
